Descriptions
Advocates, educates, investigates, and litigates to protect the rights of Californians with disabilities. Provides advice about legal, civil and service rights. Also offers training and educational publications for California residents with disabilities. Advocates in legislature to ensure that laws benefit people with disabilities. Other services include:
- Investigate complaints about serious physical and sexual abuse and neglect-related deaths in institutions
- Outreach to under served ethnic and disability communities
- Peer based self-advocacy services for people with psychiatric and developmental disabilities
- Patients' rights advocacy for state psychiatric hospital residents. Also offers technical assistance and training for county advocates.
- Bringing impact litigation and acting as amicus curiae (friend of the court) in disability-related cases
- Represent individuals based on priorities and case selection criteria
