Assists Californians with disabilities to prepare for, find, retain, and advance in employment. Services are tailored to each individual's strengths and challenges to ensure the greatest chance of success.Services offered include, but are not limited to:Evaluation of physical and mental impairmentsCounseling and guidanceInformation referral and career counseling regarding subminimum wage settingsPre-employment transition services for students and youthPre-employment servicesJob search and placement assistancePost-employment servicesRehabilitation assistive technology services and devicesRehabilitation and orientation/mobility services for individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing and/or blind/low visionSelf-employmentSupported employment servicesVehicle modification service
Eligibility
- Must have a physical or mental impairment that substantially impedes his or her ability to secure employment- Require vocational rehabilitation services to prepare for, secure, retain, or regain employment consistent with the applicant's unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choice- Program participants are expected to be available, responsible, active and dedicated contributors to their own success
Application Process
Fill out the Vocational Rehabilitation Services Application (form DR 222) and return it to your local office. Form can be picked up from local office or printed from the website. Once application has been received, DOR will contact you to schedule intake appointment.After obtaining enough information, you and your counselor will determine your eligibility for services within 0-60 days of receiving your application and information gathered at your first appointment.Once determined eligible for services, you are your counselor will jointly develop your Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). The IPE is your written plan listing your job objective and the DOR services you will receive to reach your employment goal.

For intake appointment, bring:- Any documents you have about your disability- Recent records and benefit letters (i.e.; Social Security Administration, Ticket to Work Program, or another referral)- A list of names, addresses, and telephone numbers of doctors, professionals, and organizations you have consulted about your disability
